About The Poet and Poem :

Christina Georgina Rossetti (1830–1894) was an English poet who wrote a variety of romantic, devotional and children’s poems. She is perhaps best known for her poem Goblin Market.

Boats sail on the rivers,

নৌকা পাড়ি দেয় নদী উপর,

And ships sail on the seas;

আর জাহাজ পাড়ি দেয় সমুদ্রে;

But clouds that sail across the sky

Are prettier than these.

It was a calm afternoon after heavy rain. The sky was clear and blue. Suddenly, a bright rainbow appeared across the sky. It had seven beautiful colours – red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. The colours looked magical against the cloudless sky. I felt very happy and excited to see the rainbow. It was a lovely sight.


Activity 8(b)

Suppose you are standing on a bridge looking down. Write a paragraph in about sixty words describing the things that you see below.


I stood on the old bridge and looked down. The river flowed slowly under the bridge. I saw boats sailing on the water and fish jumping now and then. Green trees lined both sides of the river. Children were playing near the bank. The scene was peaceful and beautiful. I enjoyed the fresh air and calmness of nature.
