Lesson 5 My School Days (আমার স্কুলের দিনগুলি)

One morning I went to Ballygunge Government High School with my maternal uncle.

একদিন সকালে আমি আমার মামার সাথে বালিগঞ্জ সরকারী উচ্চ বিদ্যালয়ে গিয়েছিলাম।

The class teacher gave me a few questions to answer and also a few sums to solve.

ক্লাস টিচার আমাকে উত্তর দেওয়ার জন্য কয়েকটি প্রশ্ন এবং সমাধানের জন্য কয়েকটি অংক দিয়েছিলেন।

I wrote the answers, solved the sums and showed them to the teacher.

আমি উত্তরগুলি লিখেছিলাম, অঙ্কগুলি সমাধান করেছিলাম এবং তাদের শিক্ষককে সেগুলি দেখিয়েছিলাম।

He went through the answers and nodded.

The southern part of the school was our playground.

স্কুলের দক্ষিণ অংশটি ছিল আমাদের খেলার মাঠ।

It was surrounded by a lofty wall.

When seen from above, the school looked like the English letter “T”.

উপর থেকে যখন দেখা যায়, তখন স্কুলটি ইংরেজি বর্ণ “T” এর মতো দেখাচ্ছিল।

The vertical part of the “T” was the hall of the school and the horizontal part of the letter was formed by the row of classrooms.

“টি” এর উল্লম্ব অংশটি ছিল স্কুলের হলঘর এবং অক্ষরটির অনুভূমিক অংশটি শ্রেণিকক্ষের সারি দ্বারা গঠিত হয়েছিল।

The annual prize distribution ceremony was held in this hall, which had a gallery as well.

এই হলটিতে বার্ষিক পুরষ্কার বিতরণ অনুষ্ঠানটি অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছিল, যাতে একটি গ্যালারীও ছিল।

Feasts, on occasion of Saraswati Puja, were also arranged here.

সরস্বতী পূজা উপলক্ষে ভোজ এর আয়োজনও এখানে করা হয়েছিল।

I still remember the experience of watching a Shakespearean play in this hall.

এই হলের শেক্সপিয়ারিয়ান নাটক দেখার অভিজ্ঞতাটি এখনও আমার মনে আছে।

The play was The Merchant of Venice, a few scenes from which were performed by a couple of foreign actors called Greenberg and Salim.

নাটকটি ছিল মার্চেন্ট অফ ভেনিস, যার মধ্যে কয়েকটি দৃশ্যে গ্রিনবার্গ এবং সেলিম নামে কয়েকজন বিদেশী অভিনেতা অভিনয় করেছিলেন।

A Charlie Chaplin movie was also screened here once.

চার্লি চ্যাপলিন ছায়াছবিও এখানে একবার প্রদর্শিত হয়েছিল।
